Pioneer Control Freaks ~ Video 2 ~ The Unboxing

Here’s the second video in our Control Freaks series. Again, it is probably only of interest to other DJ’s and gadget-junkies.

It was filmed on Saturday morning straight after the last one.

This video is for DJ’s and anyone interested in the new Pioneer DDJ Serato Itch controller. The Party DJ have been loaned a Pioneer DDJ-S1 for 14 days and see what it does and what it can do for us as part of the Pioneer Control Freak promotion.

We found out about this promotion from Jonathan, the DJ Tutor at www.djtutor.com
DJ Tutor is a fabulous resource for DJ’s of all abilities from beginners through to professionals with product reviews, tips, business advise and competitions from Jonathan and his friends around the World.

So, on Saturday 4th June 2011 at just after 8am, a courier delivered two packages – this video is the unboxing of that delivery. It’s video two in the series – more to follow.

Brian S Redd ~ Legend ~ FACT

You may have read before on this blog mentions of “DJ Tutor” – a website where Ellaskins (Johnathan) brings together videos and thoughts from DJ’s around the World, his main partner in crime is American DJ Brian S Redd.

Brian shares his knowledge and passion for DJ’ing via YouTube. When I was investigating coming back into DJ’ing (3 years ago) I watched a lot of Brian’s videos, and I’ve probably watched 99% of what he’s done since then and I know Joe has done the same. Brian’s ability to speak good sense straight to camera without endless re-takes means his videos have an honesty and a warmth that makes the unmissable – even if they are on a topic that’s not of any real relevance to what we are doing at the time.

Joe and I have been lucky to meet Brian a couple of times at the annual BPM event in Birmingham when he’s been over and thank him personally for the help he’s given us.

So you can understand how sad we were to hear that Brian, still only 39, suffered a stroke a week ago! I first picked up on the news from my friend, and fellow JFSR DJ, Big Ron who is a close friend of Brian’s.
Over the last seven days news has slowly filtered through and, guess what, Brian’s actually started to post vlogs from his hospital bed.

I wanted to post about this for two reasons – first to acknowledge again what Brian has done for Joe and I, and countless DJ’s all over the world, and secondly (as I say at the end of each and every one of my radio shows with Steve) to encourage you to “count your blessings” – you never know what tomorrow may bring.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian and his family as they come to terms with this radical change in their lives, and for a full and speedy recovery.

Party Planning Tips For DJ’s And Clients

I originally started this video as a reply to a video Ellaskins (Jonathan) did on the DJ Tutor www.djtutor.com site asking DJ’s to share tips on how to make New Years Eve a success. So I gathered my thoughts and added some footage from my NYE gig and this is the result.

Although it’s based on New Years Eve I believe it is still relevant to all the function work any DJ does.

I think you’ll find stuff of interest whether you are another DJ or a potential client. It’s all about attention to detail – don’t just blag it – think about it in advance and plan it.

Please post your feedback, give it a thumbs up, and subscribe if you’d like me to continue with these videos.

Cheers, Paul
